April 2017 Business of the Month

The Ransom County Gazette has been publishing weekly since 1881, when Lisbon was first being established and we are the official county newspaper.  Sean and Cheryl Kelly have been co-owners for 41 of the past 136 years, being the longest owner/publisher in the Ransom County Gazette’s long history. Sean grew up in the newspaper business and has seen the progression during the years from hot lead linotype to the modern use of computer technology, now allowing us to provide our readers with an online newspaper along with the printed version. The EXTRA section of the newspaper was created about 25 years ago to increase circulation throughout Ransom County and our neighboring county, Sargent. We started this in an effort to provide our local business advertisers with more visibility throughout our trade area.

We take great pride in providing good County and City government news, keeping our readers informed on what is happening in their local government. We also feel it is important to provide entertaining and interesting feature stories on the people and organizations that make up our local cmmunity. Our coverage on Lisbon School activities and the students who attend is a strong part of our weekly efforts also. Our staff of 11 work hard and keep very busy covering as much in our county as possible. Along with publishing, we also provide the community with their printing needs...be it business cards, envelopes, posters, programs, raffle tickets, invoices, etc., employing a graphics staff that will custom design.

We have been fortunate to be supported by a vibrant business community that values the importance of a strong weekly newspaper that puts forth a positive mirror of their community. Without this support, we could not publish a paper filled with information and interesting stories and for this we are very grateful. We are also very grateful for the loyal readers who have subscribed to their hometown paper over the years. When asked, we are always proud to say we are from North Dakota and live in the wonderful small town of Lisbon located in one of the most beautiful counties of the state. Thank you Lisbon for supporting us through all these years!
